There are less than 100 days left until the election of the president of the French Republic and the seat is still up for grabs.
As of the writing of this post, Francois Hollande of the Socialist Party is leading the polls over current president Nicolas Sarkozy. But there are other candidates, Marine Le Pen of the National Front, and François Bayrou of the Movement Democrat, who are also nibbling away at Sarkozy’s electorate.
It is precisely the electorate that is the key. French people are disgruntled as they deal with high levels of unemployment and financial insecurity, all due to the one of the worst economic crisis the country has ever faced.
And so– what is this electorate like? That is what this blog will be about- the many faces of the French voters and the issues they care about. Every week, I will take a look at a different type of French voter and their perspective. Their opinion will give us some insight into what their concerns and needs are, what they look for in a presidential candidate, and perhaps, who they might eventually vote for.
Please feel free to follow this blog on Twitter, where I tweet the latest entries but also, post other relevant news about the upcoming presidentielle (the way the French call the “presidential elections”).
If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know! I appreciate your feedback.
